Esther Duflo is the Abdul Latif Jameel Professor of Poverty Alleviation and Development Economics at MIT and co-founder of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL). Her research focuses on understanding the economic lives of the poor to design effective social policies, covering health, education, financial inclusion, environment, and governance. She has received numerous honors, including the 2019 Nobel Prize in Economics alongside Abhijit Banerjee and Michael Kremer. Together with Banerjee, she co-authored Poor Economics and Good Economics for Hard Times, influential books on global poverty and economic policy.
