Namita Gokhale is the author of 25 works across fiction and nonfiction and co-founder and co-director of the Jaipur Literature Festival. Her debut novel, Paro: Dreams of Passion (1984), is a Penguin Modern Classic in India and was recently reissued in the UK. Her recent books include Never Never Land, Life on Mars, and The Whispering Mountains: Himalayan Folk Tales, which explores Himalayan folklore and culture. Gokhale’s writing spans novels, short fiction, mythology, anthologies, and plays. A champion of literary diversity, she won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2021 for her novel Things to Leave Behind.
